Seniors tend to sit in the same location for a prolonged period of time. This is going to exacerbate issues with their necks and ensures that they leave their neck in an unhealthy position. If seniors get up and move around regularly, it is going to alleviate problems with bad posture. By making sure that seniors keep moving, they can be sure that their necks are not locked in a single (bad) position.
Tip #2 – Do Not Use Too Many Pillows
Many seniors find comfort in sleeping on a whole bunch of pillows to rest at night. However, they are not helping their neck – in fact – they are doing the opposite! By using too many pillows when you sleep, you are disturbing your neck’s natural range of motion.
Tip #3 – Make Sure That You Update Your Prescription
Yes, your glasses might have something to do with that pain in your neck. People often tend to lean their head back much more to see clearer when their eyewear prescription is not up to date. This makes it important to regularly check to see if your prescription is still up to date.
Tip #4 – Pay Attention To Posture
Whether they are driving, watching television, or working on the computer, many seniors tend to hunch forward. By being aware of your posture throughout the day and keeping your neck straight and shoulders back, it may be possible to relieve a number of different issues with neck pain. Seniors need to pay attention to the way they are sitting and moving throughout the day, to ensure that they are doing so in the most ergonomic way possible.
Neck pain is traditionally nothing much to worry about for seniors, besides well – a pain in your neck! However, if you have numbness of an arm or leg, weakness, or radiating pain, those are more serious symptoms that may require you to see a doctor.
